Historical context

Constantine the Great emerged victorious from the civil wars of the Tetrarchy, reuniting the Roman Empire under his sole rule by 324. His son Constantine II had been proclaimed caesar shortly after his birth in 316 and held the consulship in 320, 321, 324, and 329. This bronze coin honoring the young caesar was produced in AD 324 under Constantine I at Heraclea, a city of ancient Thrace also known as Perinthus.
