Historical context

This bronze coinage was produced at the mint of Rome under the authority of Licinius. Licinius served as Roman emperor from 308 to 324, spending the majority of his reign as the colleague and rival of Constantine I. His rule came to an end after his defeat at the Battle of Chrysopolis in 324, followed by his execution on the orders of Constantine.

Struck in the denominations of AE2 and AE3, the issue is dedicated to Constantius Chlorus. The obverse depicts the veiled and laureate head of Constantius Chlorus facing right, accompanied by the inscription "DIVO CONSTANTIO PIO PRINC". The reverse design presents an eagle standing right with its head turned left, paired with the legend "MEMORIAE AETERNAE".
