Historical context

Licinius ruled as Roman emperor from 308 to 324, acting for most of that time as both colleague and rival to Constantine I, with whom he jointly issued the Edict of Milan. Their fraught relationship concluded when Constantine defeated Licinius in 324. Minted in Rome under the authority of Licinius, this fractional coin depicts the bust and titulature of Constantine I.
