Historical context

Licinius ruled as Roman emperor from 308 to 324, spending much of his reign as both colleague and rival of Constantine I. Flavius Julius Crispus, the eldest son of Constantine I, was appointed junior colleague (caesar) in March 317 alongside Licinius II as part of an agreement between the two rival emperors. This coin, struck at Rome, reflects that period of joint imperial governance prior to Licinius's defeat at the Battle of Chrysopolis in 324.
