Historical context
Valerius Licinianus Licinius served as Roman emperor from 308 to 324, acting as both colleague and rival to Constantine I before his defeat in civil war in AD 324. His son, Licinius II, was elevated to the imperial rank of caesar between March 317 and September 324. Struck at the mint of Rome under the authority of Licinius, this bronze coinage represents Licinius II as caesar during this period of joint dynastic rule.
