Historical context

Constantine I, or Constantine the Great, was Roman emperor from AD 306 to 337, becoming the sole ruler of the empire in 324 following civil wars against Maxentius and Licinius. He elevated his son Constantius II to the rank of Caesar on 8 November 324. This coinage was produced at Rome under Constantine's imperial authority, featuring the young Constantius II prior to his eventual accession as Augustus in 337.
