Constantine I reigned as Roman emperor from AD 306 to 337, eventually becoming the sole ruler of the Roman Empire by 324 after emerging victorious from the civil wars of the Tetrarchy. The mint city of Thessalonica, located on the Thermaic Gulf, had been founded in 315 BC by Cassander of Macedon. This bronze coin was struck at Thessalonica under Constantine's authority.
