Historical context

Constantine I ruled as Roman emperor from AD 306 to 337, initially acclaimed augustus at Eboracum before eventually becoming the sole ruler of the Roman Empire by 324 after victorious civil wars against Maxentius and Licinius. He enacted significant governmental and monetary reforms and established Christianity's legal standing through the Edict of Milan. Trier, founded as Augusta Treverorum, served as one of the imperial capitals during the Tetrarchy and operated as an important mint within the empire.
