Historical context

Following the death of Constantine the Great, his son Constantius II became Augustus on 9 September 337, ruling alongside his brothers Constantine II and Constans. The brothers partitioned the Roman Empire, with Constantius receiving Egypt, Thrace, Greece, and the Asian provinces in the east. This bronze coinage was produced between 337 and 340 at Alexandria, the principal seaport and ancient foundation of Alexander the Great in Egypt.
