Historical context

Constantius II was Roman emperor from 337 to 361. A son of Constantine the Great, he was elevated to Caesar in 324 and became Augustus alongside his brothers Constantine II and Constans in 337. When the brothers divided the empire, Constantius received Greece, Thrace, the Asian provinces, and Egypt, where the mint of Alexandria was situated. His reign involved protracted warfare against the Sasanian Empire alongside internal civil conflicts.

Struck at Alexandria, this large bronze and billon coin bears the obverse legend "D N CONSTAN-TIVS P F AVG". The reverse depicts a helmeted soldier spearing a fallen horseman, paired with the legend "FEL TEMP RE-PARATIO". This coinage was produced under Constantius's imperial authority within his eastern territory, during an era marked by border conflicts and campaigns to maintain stability across the Roman Empire.
