Historical context

Constantius II was Roman emperor from 337 to 361. Following the death of his brother Constans and the usurpation of Magnentius in 350, Constantius waged civil war to defeat the usurper, achieving victories in 351 and 353. In 351, he elevated his cousin Constantius Gallus to the subordinate rank of Caesar to govern in the east, though Gallus was later executed in 354.

Struck at the mint of Aquileia under the authority of Constantius II, this bronze and billon Large AE2 issue portrays Constantius Gallus as Caesar, bearing the obverse legend "D N CONSTANTIVS IVN NOB C". The reverse features a helmeted soldier spearing a fallen horseman who raises his arm, accompanied by the inscription "FEL TEMP RE-PARATIO".
