Historical context

Elevated to Caesar in 324 and Augustus in 337 alongside his brothers Constantine II and Constans, his realm initially encompassed Thrace, Greece, Egypt, and the Asian provinces. His reign involved protracted border wars against the Sasanian Empire and Germanic peoples alongside internal conflicts, eventually leaving him sole ruler after defeating the usurper Magnentius.

Struck at the mint of Constantinople, this large AE2 billon or bronze issue features the obverse legend "D N CONSTAN-TIVS P F AVG" paired with the emperor's pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust. The reverse carries the legend "FEL TEMP RE-PARATIO" and depicts a helmeted soldier spearing a fallen horseman who wears a pointed cap and extends an arm while facing the advancing soldier.
