Historical context
Constantius II, a son of Constantine the Great, was raised to Caesar in 324 and became Augustus alongside his brothers on 9 September 337. His reign saw repeated border wars against the Sasanian Empire and Germanic peoples, as well as internal civil conflicts. This coin was produced under his authority at Constantinople, the new eastern capital founded in 324 on the site of Byzantium and inaugurated in 330.
