Historical context

Julian, later known as Julian the Apostate, was proclaimed emperor in 360 and ruled the Roman Empire from 361 to 363 after succeeding Constantius II. Renowned for his rejection of Christianity and public conversion to paganism, Julian governed the empire until he was mortally wounded during the Battle of Samarra on 26 June 363. This reduced siliqua was struck during his reign between AD 361 and AD 363 at Constantinople, which had served as the eastern capital of the Roman Empire since 330.
