Historical context

Elevated to Caesar in 324 and Augustus in 337, he initially ruled the eastern empire, which included Thrace, Greece, Egypt, and the Asian provinces. His reign involved ongoing frontier warfare against the Sasanian Empire and Germanic peoples, alongside internal conflicts against usurpers such as Magnentius, which eventually left him sole ruler.

Struck at the mint of Constantinople, this small AE2 billon or bronze piece features the obverse legend "D N CONSTAN-TIVS P F AVG". The reverse bears the inscription "FEL TEMP - REPARATIO" and depicts the emperor in military attire holding a shield and a standard marked with a Chi-Rho on its banner, with two captives standing before him.
