Historical context

Elevated to Caesar in 324 and Augustus in 337 alongside his brothers, he initially governed Greece, Thrace, the Asian provinces, and Egypt. His reign was marked by warfare against the Sasanian Empire, Germanic peoples, and domestic usurpers such as Magnentius, whom he defeated to become sole ruler of the Roman Empire.

This AE3 bronze and billon coin was issued under the authority of Constantius II at the mint of Constantinople, with related varieties produced at Nicomedia. It bears the imperial obverse legend "D N CONSTAN-TIVS P F AVG". The reverse depicts a radiate phoenix standing right upon a globe, accompanied by the inscription "FEL TEMP REPARATIO".
