Historical context

Constantius II was Roman emperor from 337 to 361. A son of Constantine the Great, he was raised to the rank of Caesar in 324 and became Augustus on 9 September 337 alongside his brothers, Constantine II and Constans. The brothers divided the Roman Empire, with Constantius receiving Greece, Thrace, Egypt, and the Asian provinces, where the mint of Cyzicus was situated.

This AE3 bronze coinage was produced at Cyzicus under the authority of Constantius II. Both faces of the piece commemorate his deceased father, Constantine I. The obverse depicts the veiled head of Constantine I accompanied by the inscription "DV CONSTANTI-NVS PT AVGG", while the reverse displays Constantine I standing veiled and draped, accompanied by the abbreviated inscription "VN - MR".
