Historical context

Constantius II was a son of Constantine the Great and served as Roman emperor from 337 to 361. Elevated to Caesar in 324, he became Augustus alongside his brothers, Constantine II and Constans, on 9 September 337 following their father's death. Constantius received Thrace, Greece, Egypt, and the Asian provinces in the division of the empire, later becoming sole ruler after defeating the usurper Magnentius.

This AE3 bronze coinage was struck at Heraclea under the authority of Constantius II to honour his deceased father, Constantine I. The obverse depicts a veiled, draped, and cuirassed bust of Constantine accompanied by the legend "DV CONSTANTI-NVS PT AVGG". The reverse features Constantine veiled and riding in a quadriga while the Hand of God reaches down to him, framed by the inscription "DIVVS CONSTANTI-NVS AVG PATER AVGG".
