Historical context

Jovian served as Roman emperor from June 363 to February 364, elevated by the army after Julian fell during his Persian campaign. During his brief seven-month reign, he concluded peace with the Sasanian Empire and travelled back towards Constantinople, though he died at Dadastana before arriving. This reduced siliqua was produced at the imperial mint of Nicomedia, an ancient city chosen in 286 by Diocletian as the senior eastern capital of the Roman Empire.
