Historical context

Constans, the youngest son of Constantine the Great, was made Augustus in September 337 alongside his brothers. He initially received the praetorian prefectures of Italy, Illyricum, and Africa, later defeating his elder brother Constantine II when the latter invaded Italy in 340. This coin was struck at the mint of Rome, the ancient imperial capital situated in the Tiber Valley of central-western Italy, during Constans's reign before he was overthrown and killed by Magnentius in 350.
