Historical context

Constantius II was elevated to Caesar in 324 and became Augustus on 9 September 337 alongside his brothers. After the death of Constans in 350, Constantius fought a civil war against the usurper Magnentius, defeating him at Mursa Major in 351 and Mons Seleucus in 353, which left him sole ruler of the Roman Empire. This coin was produced under his authority at Rome, the former capital of the empire located along the Tiber Valley.
