Historical context

Constantius II was Roman emperor from 337 to 361. A son of Constantine the Great, he was raised to Augustus alongside his brothers Constantine II and Constans following their father's death. After civil conflicts and the usurpation of Magnentius, whom Constantius defeated at Mursa Major in 351 and Mons Seleucus in 353, he became the sole ruler of the Roman Empire.

This bronze AE3 coinage was struck at the Rome mint under the authority of Constantius II. The obverse presents the emperor with the imperial title in the legend "D N CONSTAN-TIVS P F AVG". On the reverse, Constantius II is shown in military dress holding a spear and globe, accompanied by the reverse legend "SPES REI - PVBLICAE".
