Historical context

Constantius II was Roman emperor from 337 to 361, having been elevated to the rank of Caesar in 324 and Augustus in 337 alongside his brothers. Following the death of his brother Constans in 350, Constantius engaged in a civil war against the usurper Magnentius. In 351, he elevated his cousin Constantius Gallus to the subordinate imperial rank of Caesar, though Gallus was later executed in 354.

This reduced AE2 coinage was struck at the mint of Sirmium under the authority of Constantius II. The obverse acknowledges Gallus with his portrait and the imperial title in the legend "D N CONSTANTIVS IVN NOB C". The reverse carries the legend "FEL TEMP RE - PARATIO" alongside imagery depicting a helmeted soldier spearing a falling horseman.
