Historical context

Constans, the youngest son of Constantine the Great, served as Roman emperor from 337 to 350, having earlier held the rank of caesar from 333. Appointed augustus alongside his brothers in September 337, he was assigned the praetorian prefectures of Italy, Illyricum, and Africa. After defeating his brother Constantine II in 340, Constans also acquired the prefecture of Gaul before being overthrown and killed by Magnentius in 350.

This silver light miliarensis was struck at the Siscia mint under Constans's imperial authority. The obverse presents the emperor with the imperial title in the legend "FL IVL CONS-TANS P F AVG". The reverse depicts a winged Victory advancing with a wreath and palm branch, paired with the legend "VICTORIA - AVGVSTORVM".
