Historical context
Following the assassination of his brother Constans in 350 by the usurper Magnentius, Roman emperor Constantius II faced internal rebellion across the empire. That same year, Vetranio briefly emerged as an imperial usurper in control of Illyricum, positioned between Constantius II and Magnentius before eventually capitulating to Constantius II. This siliqua was struck at Siscia, a mint city within Illyricum, during the political upheaval of 350.
