Historical context

Constantius II reigned as Roman emperor from 337 to 361. After the assassination of his brother Constans by the usurper Magnentius in 350, Constantius waged civil war against the usurper. In 351, Constantius elevated his cousin Constantius Gallus to the subordinate imperial rank of Caesar to rule in the east. Constantius subsequently had Gallus executed in 354 following reports detailing his violent and corrupt conduct.

This reduced AE2 coinage was struck at the mint of Siscia under the imperial authority of Constantius II. The obverse depicts the bust of Constantius Gallus accompanied by the legend "D N CONSTANTIVS IVN NOB C", marking his position as Caesar. The reverse bears the legend "FEL TEMP RE-PARATIO" alongside a composition depicting an advancing helmeted soldier spearing a fallen horseman.
