Historical context

Constantine II was Roman emperor from 337 to 340, having earlier been proclaimed caesar by his father, Constantine I. Following their father's death, Constantine II and his younger brothers Constantius II and Constans eliminated rivals such as Dalmatius and Hannibalianus to share control of the empire, with Constantine II ruling Gaul, Hispania, and Britain. Struck at Siscia, this coinage reflects Constantine II's brief tenure as augustus before his death in 340 during an invasion of Italy.
