Historical context

Constans, the youngest son of Constantine the Great, served as Roman emperor from 337 until his death in 350. Initially appointed augustus alongside his brothers, he ruled Italy, Illyricum, and Africa. Following a civil war in 340 in which Constantine II was killed near Aquileia, Constans assumed control of the praetorian prefecture of Gaul, later conducting military campaigns against the Franks before his overthrow by Magnentius in 350.

Struck at the Trier mint under Constans's authority, this reduced AE2 bronze and billon coin belongs to his western administration. The obverse depicts the emperor holding a globe with the legend "D N CONSTA-NS P F AVG", while the reverse bears the legend "FEL•TEMP•REPAR-ATIO" and portrays a helmeted soldier leading a smaller, bare-headed figure away from a hut situated beneath a tree.
