Historical context

Constantine II ruled as Roman emperor from 337 to 340 alongside his younger brothers, including Constantius II, following the death of their father, Constantine I. The brothers divided the empire after eliminating rival male relatives, leaving Constantine II to govern Gaul, Hispania, and Britain while Constantius II received the eastern provinces. This coin was minted under the authority of Constantine II at Trier, which had previously served as one of the four capitals of the Tetrarchy, portraying his brother Constantius II as augustus.
