Historical context
The solidus was a pure gold coin introduced in the early 4th century to replace the aureus, maintaining a standard weight of approximately 4.45 grams as the primary gold coin of late Roman commerce. Struck between 364 and 366 under Procopius, this coin was minted at Cyzicus. Cyzicus was an ancient Greek town located in Mysia in Anatolia, situated on the shoreward side of the Kapıdağ Peninsula on the Sea of Marmara.
