Historical context

Heraclea, originally known as Perinthus, was an ancient city located on the Propontis in Thrace, situated 90 kilometres west of Byzantium and 35 kilometres west of Selymbria at modern Marmara Ereğlisi in Turkey. The city served as an official mint of the Roman Empire, producing bronze coinage such as this AE3 struck between AD 364 and AD 367 during the reign of Procopius.
