Historical context

Theodosius I, who reigned as Roman emperor from 379 to 395, was the final ruler to govern the entire Roman Empire. His younger son Honorius later ruled the Western Roman Empire from 393 to 423, while his brother Arcadius held the eastern half. Struck at Mediolanum between AD 388 and AD 393 under Theodosius I, this silver siliqua—a thin denomination introduced in the 4th century—bears the portrait and title of the young Honorius.
